Lift services

Eight kinds of request we take. Each page explains the work, what an operator needs from you and what shows up on the quote.

How quoting works

Victoria Crane Service is not a crane company. It is a request desk: you describe the lift once, and independent operators who work this area quote you. You choose, book and pay the operator directly. More on how it works

Send the lift

Use the form or WhatsApp. The numbers that matter are the heaviest piece, how far it lands from where the crane can set up, and how high it goes. Add the site, the ground and anything overhead.

We pass it on

We send your request to independent crane and rigging companies that take work around Victoria, matched to the kind of lift and the town.

Operators quote you

Operators who can take the job contact you with questions and a quote. Expect questions about the site; a site visit is common for plant work and tight set-ups.

You book directly

Compare the quotes, ask for operator certifications and proof of insurance, and book the company you choose. The request is free; you pay the operator you hire.

Size up your lift

ft

This is geometry, not a load chart. A crane's capacity drops as the radius grows, and the operator adds the hook block, the rigging and room above the load before choosing a crane.

Operators size a crane from three numbers: the heaviest piece, the radius (the level distance from where the crane sets up to where the load lands) and the set height. Measure or estimate them before you ask for a quote.

Victoria and the barge canal

Victoria is called the Crossroads because US 59, US 77 and US 87 meet here. The Port of Victoria sits on an inland barge channel with direct access to the Gulf, and it has a Foreign Trade Zone and a Texas Enterprise Zone. Energy, agricultural and manufacturing cargo moves through it, which means heavy pieces to unload, set and reposition: pipe, vessels, steel and equipment.

Point Comfort and Lavaca Bay

At Point Comfort, on Lavaca Bay, is the Formosa Plastics complex. It is served by a different port, the Port of Port Lavaca–Point Comfort (Calhoun Port Authority). Large plants schedule turnarounds, planned shutdowns for inspection and repair, and a turnaround brings cranes, riggers and lift plans onto a site at the same time.

Plant sites set their own rules

Inside a plant, the owner decides who may enter, what safety training and work permits are needed and whether a written lift plan is required. Mention plant work in your request so operators can plan for it. Plant and turnaround lifts

What a crane quote is made of

We do not publish rates. Crane prices around Victoria depend on the crane, the hours, the travel and the crew, so each operator quotes the job. These are the parts a quote is built from.

With operator

For most lifts: the crane arrives with its operator, and the job is quoted as a whole.

Expect the price to be built from the crane's hourly or daily rate, often with a minimum number of hours, plus travel or mobilization to your site.

Common extra lines: a rigger or signal person, rigging gear, crane mats, permits, overtime and waiting time. Ask for each as its own line so the quotes compare fairly.

Operated lifts in detail

Bare rental

For contractors with their own qualified operator and riggers.

The crane is delivered and picked up; your crew runs it. Expect the rental company to ask about your operator's qualifications and your insurance before it releases the crane.

Travel can be a large part of the bill. Depending on the crane size, the nearest free unit may come from out of town, sometimes from as far as San Antonio, about two hours away.

Crane questions, answered

This serviceAre you a crane company?

No. Victoria Crane Service is a quote-request service. We pass your lift details to independent local crane operators who work around Victoria, and they quote you directly. We do not own cranes, employ operators or perform lifts.

Your requestWhat should I send to get a crane quote?

The heaviest piece and its weight, the radius (how far from the crane's set-up spot the load lands), the set height, the site address, the ground the crane will sit on, anything overhead such as power lines or a pipe rack, and your dates. Photos of the set-up area help.

Bare rentalCan I rent a crane without an operator?

Yes. Bare rental exists, but you supply a qualified operator and usually your own riggers. Most one-off lifts are booked with an operator, because the operator then plans and runs the lift.

RiggingIs rigging included with the crane?

Not always. Rigging gear, a rigger and a signal person are often quoted as separate lines. Say in your request whether you need them or whether your own crew will rig the load.

Boom trucksWhat is the difference between a boom truck and a boom lift?

A boom truck is a crane on a truck chassis that lifts materials. A boom lift is a work platform that lifts people. To set a load you need a crane or a boom truck; to put a worker at height you need a lift.

OperatorsDo crane operators need to be certified?

For construction work, OSHA's crane rule (29 CFR 1926.1427) requires operators of most cranes over 2,000 lb rated capacity to be trained, certified or qualified, and evaluated by their employer. State or local rules can add to this. Ask each company how its operators are certified.

CostHow much does a crane cost in Victoria?

It depends on the crane size, the hours, travel to your site and the crew. We do not publish rates; operators quote each job. The section above on what a crane quote is made of lists the usual lines.

Plant workCan a crane work inside a plant at Point Comfort or Victoria?

Yes, but the plant sets the conditions: gate access, safety training, work permits and often a written lift plan. Choose "Plant or turnaround lift" in the form and note the plant's requirements.

Requests come in from across the Crossroads and the bay. Whether an operator travels to your site, and what the travel costs, is part of their quote. All service areas
